Paint a Cup Ceramics Workshops
Baer Ceramics and Sterling Arts Collaborative are sponsoring an exciting ceramic arts workshop where kids can paint 9oz cups. Once fired in the kiln these cups will be dishwasher and microwave safe.
In these workshops, students will learn a specific underglaze technique (similar to paint your own pottery) on a prepared cup. Upon completion, the cups will be left with the instructor to be coated in a clear glaze and fired in a kiln. Students will be able to pick up the cups at the Senior Center once notified they’re ready (within 2 weeks of workshop).
Date: April 24th, 2025 (Multiple sessions offered based on child's age)
Location: Sterling Senior Center, 36 Muddy Pond Road, Sterling MA
Cost: $10 per child, $5 for additional child in same household
9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (3rd - 5th Graders)
Free Paint Cups - Students will consider color and how what they paint on their cup will come out of the kiln a little different. Students will look at finished cups and make decisions on how they'd like their cup to look.
11:00 PM - 12:30 PM (6th - 8th Graders)
Patterns on Cups - Students will spend a small amount of time viewing inspiration, sketching patterns, and imagining them on a round surface. The remainder will be applying these techniques with a variety of applications: paint brush, sponges, stamps, and other ways to create patterns on cups.
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM (9th - 12th Graders)
Collage Cups - Students will explore color and contrast as they make decisions of what kind of images to apply to their cup. These decals are applied with water, a sponge, and a small amount of pressure. Students will start to see their collage cup come to life as they continue to add images and icons.
Parents may drop off or stay to watch the process.
Payment is due on the day of the event and can be made by cash or check.
